Newserials: ênfase na diversidade e identidade regional na televisão canadense.
Resumo
Este ensaio analisa uma das reportagens da série “East meets west”, produzida pelo documentarista Jojo Chintoh para a Citytv, uma televisão regional sediada em Toronto, Canadá. O título “O leste conhece o oeste” já encerra, de forma irônica, as contradições e conflitos multirraciais na sociedade canadense. A identidade cultural, vista sob o ponto de vista dialético da unidade de contrários, permite compreender o que está em jogo, na produção de sentido da narrativa audiovisual. O tema da inclusão/exclusão passa a ser uma das estratégias de uma emissora de televisão, que diante de um ambiente global se afirma pela cobertura jornalística e diversidade, focadas na cidade de Toronto. A perspectiva de análise é a Dialética Histórico Estrutural, a partir da Semiologia de Roland Barthes e de uma pesquisa qualitativa.
Abstract: This essay analyses one part of TV series “East meets west”, by the documentary specialist, Jojo Chintoh to Citytv, a local television station in Toronto, Canada. The heading “East meets west” is an ironic way to shows contradictions and multiracials conflicts in Canadian society. Cultural identity, shown as a dialectic principle of contrary unit, allows to understand what is not directly expressed in the television’s narrative process to make sense of meaning. Inclusion/exclusion matters become one possible strategy for a local television in facing global environment. The program is emphasized in city’s covering news and diversity values through characteristics and interests of Toronto citizens. The analysis is in perspective to Structural-Historical-Dialectic (DHE) supplied by the Semiology of Roland Barthes.
