Conflict resolution and school assemblies.
AbstractThis paper shows how school assemblies, which are understood as dialogic spaces, can constitute an important strategy to work on conflict resolution in schools. Besides, they can help students, teachers and other members of the staff construct values in democracy and citizenship. I have presented three different types of assemblies, with specific objectives that complement each other, and how they can be implemented in schools. Finally, I have reported some research results which show how work on school assemblies can promote the development of dialogic capacities and values of non-violence, respect, justice, democracy, and solidarity, thus triggering changes in interpersonal relations in schools and in the students’ ethical and psychic education.
Key words: school democracy; school assembly; conflict resolution.
