O papel da educação visual e da iconologia na exaltação dos valores nacionais e na inclusão ou rejeição do estrangeiro
Resumo
Este estudo parte da premissa de que é de suma importância na atualidade discutir acerca do nacionalismo enquanto sentimento de pertencimento a um grupo que se julga apto à formação de uma nação autônoma. Nesta perspectiva, cabe estudar o papel da educação como propulsora da exaltação dos valores nacionais e da inclusão ou rejeição do estrangeiro, a depender de como é dirigida. Para tanto, tomamos como objetos de análise dois filmes que encarnam tal formulação do mito fundador de uma nação: O Descobrimento do Brasil (1937), de Humberto Mauro, e O Triunfo da Vontade (1934), de Leni Riefenstahl. Concluímos que cada um destes filmes usa de símbolos iconográficos – respectivamente a cruz e a bandeira – para apresentar cenários ritualísticos que atualizam o mito fundador, controlando os significados das imagens para o entendimento dos símbolos como emblemas da entidade nação.

The role of visual education and the iconology on the national values exaltation and inclusion or rejection of the foreign
AbstractThe present study started from the premise that nowadays is quite important to discuss nationalism as a feeling of belonging to a group that considers itself capable of forming an autonomous nation. In this perspective, it is proper to investigate the role of education as a launcher of the exaltation of national values as well the inclusion or rejection of the foreign, depending on how is directed. Thus, we selected two films as objects of analysis, which embody the formulation of the founder’s myth of a nation: The Discovery of Brazil (1937), by Humberto Mauro, and Triumph of the Will (1934), by Leni Riefenstahl. We concluded that each film utilize an iconographic symbology - respectively the cross and the flag – in order to show ritualistic sceneries that update the founder’s myth and control the meanings of the images for the comprehension of the symbols as emblems of the entity nation.
